Weekly Bulletin

House Blessings

Father Timothy has begun scheduling the blessing of homes which follow the Feast of Holy Theophany and the blessing of the Water. Please e-mail him at pastor@stmichaelvannuys.org should you have a preference of a day or time. If possible, it is best to plan a time when everyone in your household is at home. Father’s visit is primarily for the purpose of prayer and to answer any questions you may have regarding our Faith and practice. Also, please understand that Father would like to visit as many homes in your area on the same day as time would allow. While visits to your home and house blessings may occur at any day of the year, Father will be scheduling many blessings of homes up until the time for Great Lent.

Wednesday Evening Lenten Dinners

Great Lent will begin on Monday, February 15, and following the Pre-sanctified Liturgy (6:30 p.m.) each Wednesday evening, a Lenten meal will be hosted by families of our parish. Please contact with Rima Hage rimahingh@yahoo.com if you have a preferred date. Groups are being assigned and the list will be published soon. If you have not participated in previous years and would like to be included, please speak with Rima to sign-up with a group.

Participate in the Humane Society’s “Coats for Cubs” Program

Do you have an old fur coat, stole or hat stored in the closet or attic? Many of us have fur apparel that we no longer want or that was left to us by a family member. Some are not comfortable selling it or giving it to charity because they feel people should not wear animal fur. So what should people do with it? If you would like to see old fur put to good use, consider donating it to the humane society of the U.S. “Coats for Cubs Program.” All of the furs received are sent to wildlife rehabilitators who use the furs to warm and comfort orphaned and injured wildlife. The furs are cut into small blankets and placed inside the animal’s enclosure. The furry blanket becomes a surrogate mother to orphaned animals, reducing stress and giving comfort. Andrea Waldman and Leilah Lewin will be collecting any donated furs from today to “Earth Day” (April 22nd) for the Humane Society, via the Buffalo Exchange in Sherman Oaks. If you would like to make a fur contribution or have any questions, please contact Andrea at: andreathabet@yahoo.com or Leilah at: leilahsadd@yahoo.com. You can also find more information about the program at either the Humane Society or Buffalo Exchange websites. Tax deductions for donations must be mailed directly to the Humane Society: 2100 L. Street NW; Washington DC; 20037; Attn: Coats for Cubs.

2010 Pledge/Tithe Forms A 2010 Pledge/tithe form

Join our Bible Study

We meet every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in the conference room of the Community Center.  All are welcome to join us.  The purpose of the study is to provide an introduction to the Orthodox Bible (the Old, New Testaments and inter-testamental books), an orientation to the use of Holy Scripture in the Church liturgies, and to clarify what is the Orthodox interpretation of the Bible based upon the teaching of the Church Fathers, Ecumenical Councils, and Canonical Tradition.  The study is led by Elias Mankouche, our Church Librarian, [eli_mankouche@hotmail.com], and each session will be tailored to the interests of people who attend.

Ralphs Supermarket Rewards Program

Each time you shop at Ralphs supermarkets a donation can be made to St. Michael Church.  Many of you have already been previously enrolled in Ralphs Community Rewards Program as “Ralphs Club” members.  However, Ralphs recently launched a new “Ralphs Rewards” program.  All customers will be completing a new application and receiving a new card the next time they shop at Ralphs.  As long as our participating parishioners link their former (“old”) Ralphs Club Card with their new Ralphs Rewards Card, Ralphs will continue an uninterrupted donation to St. Michael Church.  A confirmation will be visible with the St. Michael Church contribution noted at the bottom of your receipt.  Should you already have a new Ralphs Rewards Card, please take the time to go on-line at: www.ralphs.com to enroll your new Ralphs card with St. Michael Church.  Should you have any questions, please phone Ralphs at: 1-800-433-4438 or speak with Sondra Love for assistance.
